Gallery
The Municipal Art Gallery of Mithymna was inaugurated in August 1981 with 77 works donated either by the artists themselves or by art collectors. However, the need to have a housing space for the works of the artists who resided in Molivos dates back to the end of the 1950s and the beginnings of the touristic and cultural development of Molivos. In 1981, with the initiative of the then mayor Kostas Doukas, the writer Nasos Theofilos, the artist Apostolos Giyiannos and the contribution of the painter Chronis Botsoglou, the opening of the Art Gallery took place.
The Gallery's collection hosts works of older artists, such as the two designs by Giannoulis Halepas, but also works of a generation of younger artists with intense activity during the 1960s and 1970s, characterized by a new realism that brings modern Greek reality into contact with the Europe. Many of these artists will later teach for long periods of time at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Today, the Gallery is expanding its collection with new acquisitions by contemporary artists. Thus, alongside traditional media, the visitor has the opportunity to come into contact with contemporary works such as installations in nature, on-site constructions and conceptual projects.

Molivos, which was a source of inspiration for many artists, musicians, writers, folklorists, sculptors, could only inspire painters to create and exhibit their works, contributing to the building and the cultural heritage of the place. For this reason, the art gallery was founded and operates!
It's located in the center of the settlement, towards the end of the market street, above the main street.
